One of Ben's sweet design ideas was this interchangeable insert. This one is used for stone-setting. You can see the hole in the shelf below the insert that holds the engraver's ball. This setup allows Ben to fully support his arms while getting his hands very close to the clamped jewelry. The U-shaped cutout at the back of the bench (with the red edge) is where the microscope's post comes through.
Cherry, cherry veneered board, steel drawers, etc. Polyurethane finish on work surfaces. Shellac finish on the cabinets.
